I know I've been a ghost in the last year, nothing new on the photography side, I'm sorry
And I have a question for you. An artist asked me if he could use one of my picture for his upcoming album. He's a well known-artist in Canada, and one of my favourite, so no need to say that I was blown away by his proposition.
BUT. He says "You'd be credited, of course, but I'm not sure they'll offer you any real money given that they could hire someone. But I like this photo a lot, so I thought I'd run it by you."
Personnally, I don't mind not receiving any money for this. I never did photography in the hopes of my pictures being used or selled, or for anything else than a hobby, and I would be immensely happy at the idea of one of my photo being on his album cover.
My friends are telling me to be careful, that I could lose my copyright over this, and that I should get paid. The thing is, I don't know anything about copyrights, and I thought maybe some of you would have some advices on the matter.
What's the worst case scenario? I don't get any money? That, I don't really care.
He uses my picture without giving me credit? It would make me sad, but I'm still really excited at the idea of seeing my picture on the album cover of an artist I adore.
I lose the rights of my picture? Do I have any to begin with, since my picture are up on the web?
I'm at a loss here, so I'm asking your opinion. Help me!
On a happier note, how are you guys? I hope the new year is starting well for you all!
